The task of keeping "Family Guy" funny keps animator Seth McFarland tense.
"I'm like, `Oh, my gosh! We used up all the funny lines last week! What are we going to do?' But that's good. It pushes me to do better work," he says.
That's good news for "Guy" fans. New episodes will be shown next spring on Fox. In the meantime, the familiar episodes are popping up all over the place, not bad for a series that was cancelled because of low ratings in 2002.
"Guy" focuses on the Griffin household, which includes lovable loser Peter; his long-suffering wife, Lois; their teenagers, Chris and Megan; a dog named Brian that is smarter than everyone else in the house, and a mutant baby, Stewie, who makes numerous attempts to eradicate his family.
"Guy" continues at 10 p.m. weeknights on Cartoon Network and will be showcased in a mini-marathon beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday (KMSP, Ch. 9), on Fox.
"Guy's" revival began in 2003, when the Cartoon Network started airing 40 of its episodes.
The cable channel was stunned by the response. The show set ratings records for the Cartoon Network's most coveted audience: adults ages 18 to 34.
"Obviously, people were waiting for this to come," says Joe Swaney, a spokesman for Cartoon Network.
The response spurred Fox to put "Guy" on DVD, and sales went through the roof. With 2.5 million copies sold, "Guy" has found new life.
Fox has commissioned 35 new episodes, coming in spring of 2005.
"Guy" was MacFarland's first major project. He collaborates on the writing, does some of the voices and the animation.
